In 12 days I will run my fifth half marathon and my third in Vibrams. I am less prepared than I’ve ever been, as my ITBS flareup in November stole some of my prep time. I was originally signed up to run the marathon (26.2 miles!) this January, but meekly decided my body wasn’t going to be ready. Hell, I’m not sure my body is ready for a half.
And then I ran 10.11 miles last week. Just out of the blue. I planned on running a quick 5k, turned it into 10k and then briefly considered running 13.1 miles. But when I made it to Elliott Road, about five miles north of my home, I realized the sun was setting. Normally this wouldn’t be a thing, but running another eight miles in sub-40 degree heat while wet seemed stupid. I also knew I was pushing my body a bit, so I completed the loop and headed toward home.I made it. My foot hurt the next day, but thanks to some golf ball therapy, that’s gone now. My legs are a little stiff from lunges, squats and sprints yesterday, but I feel good.
12 days. 13.1 miles. Again.
